The MetaTrader 4 trading platform is the most popular FX platform in the world. The following instructions will show you how to install the software, after you have requested a demo and downloaded the program.
IMPORTANT: If you have not requested a trading demo, please click here to do so before continuing. Keep in mind that the illustration below assumes that the trader is using the Internet Explorer browser; but in reality, any browser (FireFox, Google Chrome, etc.) can be used to download and install the program. The procedure is the same.
After you click on the download link that you will see once you request a demo, the window below, titled "File Download – Security Warning," will appear.
Click on "Save." This will download an MT4 setup file with an "exe" (executable) extension to your computer. When the download is complete, you'll see the following window:
Click on "Run" to install the platform. Once you do, the next window appears.
Click on "Run" again and the following window appears.
Click on "Next" to see the following window.
Click on "Next" again and you'll see the window below.
Make sure you Check, "Yes, I agree with all the terms of this license agreement" and Click "Next". The window below will appear.

Click on "Finish" and the "Personal details" window below will appear.
Enter your information: Country, State (if applicable), City, etc., select your "Account Type" ("FixedSpread", "Variable", or "ECNPremiere"), select your desired Leverage (as high as 500:1), check off "I agree to subscribe to your newsletters," and enter your "Deposit" amount for your Demo (even though the deposit amount is not real, we recommend that traders select an amount that is realistic based on the amount they will open an account with). Click "Next" and observe the window below.
Once you Click "Next" on the window above, you'll see the window below with your login information.
Before you Click "Finish," write down your login information for your newly created demo account. The "Login" is the account number for your demo. The "Password" is the trading password "Investor" is a read-only password you can give to anyone that you would like to watch your account, but not be able to place and execute trades. Click on "Finish." The window below appears.
If the "LiveUpdate" window appears over the trading platform once the platforms open, click on "Start" to update the program. If only the main platform screen appears (without the "LiveUpdate" window), please skip the step below. If you want to enlarge the image above, please click on the image.
Once the platform update is complete, the window above will appear. Click on "Update and Restart " and you'll see the platform window below.
The MT4 installation is now complete. You can start trading and practicing on your simulator at this time!
